National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director-General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has revealed that the monthly allowance for corps members will be significantly increased to ₦77,000, effective from February 2025. This announcement was made during a meeting with the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members stationed in Katsina State on Thursday. The DG clarified that this increase has been factored into the 2025 Federal Government budget and awaits final passage before implementation.
General Ahmed explained the timeline, noting that while January was already concluding, the increased allowance would be disbursed starting the following month, February, contingent upon budget approval. He stated that corps members would then receive ₦77,000, a substantial rise from the current ₦33,000. This announcement underscores the government’s focus on improving the welfare of corps members.
The Director-General stressed the government’s dedication to both the welfare and security of corps members, encouraging them to reciprocate this commitment with diligent service. 1 He reassured them that deployments would not be made to areas deemed insecure, guaranteeing their safety and security throughout their service year. “We will not send our corps members to any areas with security challenges,” he affirmed, adding, “Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secure for them to serve.”
