Fatal Bus Crash in Ondo Claims 30 Lives

The Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps reported that 30 people died in a road accident on the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway at Onipetesi community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday evening. The victims were reportedly killed when two buses they were traveling in collided head-on and caught fire.

FRSC Sector Commander, Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations indicate one of the vehicles was driving against traffic. He reported that 28 people were burned beyond recognition at the scene, while two initially survived but died en route to the hospital.

An eyewitness account corroborated the information, stating that the two commercial buses collided and immediately caught fire, leaving no survivors at the scene. The eyewitness explained that they heard a loud crash and upon reaching the scene, found the two vehicles engulfed in flames with some passengers struggling to escape. The FRSC arrived shortly after and transported the two survivors to the hospital, but they later died. The FRSC commander urged motorists to exercise caution while driving on the expressway and to strictly obey all traffic laws and regulations.
