Concern has been raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the increasing use of early campaigns by politicians and their surrogates, which is obviously against the law.
This was revealed by Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, the national commissioner of INEC and the chairman of the board of the Electoral Institute TEI, during a roundtable of stakeholders held in Abuja on Wednesday to discuss “The Challenges of Premature Political Campaigns.”
He claims that early campaigns are now carried out through billboards, social media, and even in-person events under the guise of “appreciation” or “philanthropy.”
