Simi advises against teaching your girls to be financially dependent on others

Nigerian musician Simi has emphasized the critical role that financial independence plays for women and urged parents to instill in their children the significance of becoming self-sufficient.

Simi recently urged women to take charge of their financial destiny in a video that was uploaded to her official TikTok account.

“Please do not raise your daughters to believe that they only need to rely on someone to take care of themselves when they grow up,” she added. It shouldn’t be because you can’t spoil yourself that someone spoils you. You are spoiling them just as they are spoiling you, and you are showing them how strong you are.”

The singer discussed the safety that comes with women being financially independent, emphasizing that it keeps them safe.

“Knowing that you have oneself gives you a sense of security. Women’s economic power lies in their ability to defend themselves, stand up for themselves, and boldly accept that they are whole individuals. You need to take up space; you deserve beautiful things,” she added.

Simi considered her childhood and the assistance she got while acknowledging her own advantages.

“I acknowledge that I say this from a position of privilege,” she clarified. I grew up surrounded by people who supported, challenged, and believed in me. While some women had to work with less, I had opportunities that brought me this far.

“Less love, less faith, less kindness and opportunities, and that’s where we are a society have to step in and when you are in a position to give a deserving woman an opportunity, please give it to her,” she said.
