Rita Dominic used to be a caretaker in the United Kingdom
She claimed that during moments when she needed it, caring for other people gave her a new purpose in life.
Rita Dominic-Anosike explains her early 2000s acting hiatus. Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Dominic said that she started working as a caregiver in London in the first
few years of the 2000s while taking a break from performing.
Addressing at the Women of Valour International Women’s Day event in Accra, Ghana, the actress revealed her motivations for taking the break. She claimed that she relocated to London
because she desired a vacation amid a trying time.
“As most of you might be unaware, I left the theater and the profession in 2001/2002.
I left that area for a moment and relocated to London because, as I mentioned before, it was an extremely difficult period in my life. I was having problems, I had fallen out with a few
acquaintances who I thought of as family, and I had given up performing for a bit,” the actress recalled.
While some may consider it as a step-down, I began working as an assistant for persons with particular requirements in a care facility. I recall taking care of my mother and father when they
were sick because I was alone with them, and it gave me fulfillment and meaning at the moment when I desired it most,” the woman continued.
The actress also talked about caring for her sick mother and the agony of seeing her deteriorate. She also said that up till the moment of her death in 2001, she was cared for by her and her
father.
