Kano Hospital Board Suspends Doctor Over Alleged Negligence
Dr Mansur Nagoda, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, has given his approval for the immediate suspension of a medical officer at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.
This decision was made in response to numerous complaints received from both patients and staff regarding the doctor’s unexplained absence from duty.
Dr Nagoda stated that the suspended doctor, whose name is being withheld, left the hospital premises without notifying any officer or the hospital management.
Despite multiple attempts to contact the suspended doctor, she consistently claimed to be on the premises but failed to show up, leaving a dialysis patient in a state of fear.
The Executive Secretary emphasized that doctors have a responsibility to prioritize the protection of lives and urged everyone to be more diligent in fulfilling their duties within the healthcare system.
“Let this serve as a warning to all, if by any means you have to be absent from duty, it is paramount to make a proper arrangement with another doctor to cover up your duty post. We will not fold our arms and watch people throw the system into uncertainty,” he said.
Nagoda emphasized that the suspension will persist until the investigation concludes while reiterating the board’s dedication to upholding accountability and professionalism within the healthcare workforce.
He said that executive oversight would persist with utmost vigour and that the board anticipates all individuals listed on the duty roster fulfilling their responsibilities.
“Those who fail to meet expectations will bear the consequences,” cautioned Nagoda.
