Hilda Baci will be commemorating her cookathon record’s one-year anniversary over the following five days
In May 2023, the chef beat the record for the longest cooking marathon completed by a single person.
Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef, is having a party this week to commemorate the first anniversary of her cooking marathon, which was officially recognized as a Guinness World Record in 2023.
On May 12, 2024, Baci used her Instagram account to reflect on the teamwork that went into her endeavor a year prior. She declared excitedly that a five-day celebration will be held in honor of her achievement.
She said, “On this day one year ago we began an official attempt which created history.”
“At about 5 pm on the 12th of May, I turned on the gas for the very first time only to be turned off on the 17th of May 5 days later so yes we have a 5-day long anniversary and I’m here for it,” she continued.
The world record holder acknowledged that it took a large team of about 100 individuals to pull off the cookathon attempt and thanked everyone who helped make her goal come true.
“My alpha team was the first point of contact that made my massive desires come true, so it goes without saying that they will be the first people to celebrate with me. I couldn’t have accomplished it without them.” It was such a large team, really.

Hilda Baci surpassed Lata Tondon of India’s 2019 record of 87 hours and 45 minutes by cooking for more than 100 hours in May 2023. In an effort to support her feat, thousands of Nigerians came to Amore Gardens in Lekki, where she prepared hundreds of delicious dinners.
Nigerians both at the national and international level enthusiastically supported her attempt, both in person and online. Thousands of well-wishers, lawmakers, influencers, and celebrities paid her visits until the very end of her effort.
Given her timing issues over her breaks, her official record time was officially determined to be 93 hours and 11 minutes when the Guinness Book of Records officially declared her as the world record holder in June. Her formal certificate from the GRW body arrived later that month, to her great excitement.
The owner and chef of a Japanese restaurant, Alan Fisher, beat Baci’s record in November 2023 after cooking for 119 hours and 57 minutes.
