NECO Releases 2024 Internal Examination Results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the results of the 2024 Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) exams.

During a press conference in Minna on Thursday, September 19, the NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, confirmed the development with journalists.

Wushishi explained that the examination authority had taken action against 21 supervisors across 12 states and revoked recognition from one school in Ekiti state for widespread cheating in several subjects.

Wushishi mentioned that the supervisors faced blacklisting for reasons such as inadequate supervision, supporting cheating, fleeing, demanding bribes, being under the influence, and carelessness.

He also provided a detailed summary of the results, stating that a total of 1,367,736 students took the exam, with 702,112 being males and 665,624 females.

He further revealed that 828,284 students achieved five credits or more, including in English and Mathematics, which accounts for 60.55%. Additionally, 1,147,597 students reached this threshold, regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics, making up 83.90%.

Wushishi also highlighted a decrease in cases of cheating during the exams compared to the previous year, indicating a positive trend.

He stated, “The number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437, compared to 12,030 in 2023, indicating a reduction of 30.1%.”

However, the registrar revealed that 40 schools were involved in mass cheating during the examination.

He said, “During the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination, 40 schools were found to have engaged in whole-school (mass) cheating in 17 states. They will be invited to the Council for discussion, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied. One school in Ekiti has been recommended for de-recognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and one Science subject.

“Similarly, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence in 12 states.”

Wushishi urged candidates who sat for the examination to visit the NECO website to access their results.

“At this juncture, I wish to formally declare that the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination results are hereby released to the public. By this release, candidates can now access their results on the NECO website: www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration number,” Wushishi said.
