In honor of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, Apple Music released a list of the greatest Nigerian musicians, hits, and albums ever.
Oshe Naija, which translates to “Thanks Nigeria” in Yoruba, is a month-long project by Apple Music honoring several places that have greatly influenced the soundscape of Nigerian music and prepared it for a global audience. It is part of the platform’s celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day.
The list of the top 10 Nigerian musicians who have ever had the most streams on Apple Music was released as part of the festivities. Grammy Award winner Burna Boy, who shot to international stardom in 2018 with his breakthrough hit song “YE,” tops the list. Along with Wizkid, Davido, Rema, and Asake—who finished fifth thanks to his incredible run of hits—the list also includes some of Nigeria’s greatest and most successful artists of the past ten years.
Tems, the Grammy winner, is the only female musician on the list. She rose to prominence when her alluring music attracted devoted fans all around the world.

The Oshe Naija collection, which Apple Music is releasing in honor of Nigeria’s 64th anniversary of independence, features eight specially curated playlists by Afro-fusion superstar Omah Lay (Port Harcourt), Hip-Hop force ODUMODUBLVCK (Abuja), maverick rapper Shallipopi (Benin City), Afro-R&B doyenne Qing Madi (Benin City), genre-bending singer-songwriter Seyi Vibez (Lagos), legendary Afro-pop singer-songwriter 2Baba (Jos), unbeatable rapper Jeriq (Enugu), and revolutionary up-and-coming singer Bloody Civilian (Abuja)
