Police Arrest Singer Speed Darlington – Lawyer Confirms

Popular Nigerian Musician, Speed Darlington Arrested

A renowned Nigerian human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has confirmed that sensational singer and social media figure, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja.

Adeyanju stated that Speed Darlington, also referred to as Akpi, was apprehended in Lagos last Friday and has since been moved to Abuja, where he remains detained.

He indicated that the arrest stemmed from a formal complaint lodged by Grammy Award-winning artist, Burna Boy.

However, he did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the complaint.

The activist shared this information in a post on his X account on Tuesday.

Adeyanju wrote, “We just spent the last 30mins with Speed Darlington and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around and eventually brought to Abuja and has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm.”

Previously, a popular social media personality, Constance Nwogu, issued a warning about the supposed vanishing of musician Speed Darlington.

In a post posted on social media on Monday, Nwogu voiced worry about the musician’s location, mentioning that he hasn’t been in contact for three days.

“It has come to our notice that our man Speeddarlington (Akpi) has been missing for days now (three days now),” Nwogu wrote via her Instagram page.

She noted that the most recent update on Speeddarlington’s social media accounts was posted three days back, marking a break from his online active presence.

Reporters subsequently found out that Speeddarlington’s most recent video on YouTube was posted three days prior, on October 4, and his Instagram update was nearly a month back, on September 8. However, he usually engages in live sessions on Instagram.

“Up till now, no one has heard from him. We have all tried to reach him, but to no avail,” Nwogu noted.

She stressed the urgency of the situation.

While there is no confirmed reason for Speeddarlington’s sudden disappearance, Nwogu suggested that it “could possibly be as a result of a video he must have made before now.”

In the said video, Speed Darlington questioned the authenticity of Burna Boy’s Grammy award and allegedly linked Burna Boy with embattled musician Sean Combs, known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy.
