Regarding arming FRSC officers, Kate Henshaw said, “Who will protect the citizens?”

The news that the House of Representatives is considering passing a law allowing Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) staff to carry firearms has prompted actress Kate Henshaw of Nollywood to respond.

Aware of the bill’s possible risks, the actress spoke out on X on October 14, 2024, bringing attention to the ongoing fight against police brutality.

“Occasionally, we still have to deal with police abuse. They now wish to include traffic safety. Who is going to defend the people?” She expressed her disdain in a letter.

Henshaw’s supporters emphasized their disapproval of the law in the comment section, voicing their agreement with her stance.

“Oh no, it’s the FG disguising themselves as Sars and rebranding and arming the FRSC. Not a single thing will change. We must voice our opposition to it,” an X user stated.

“It’s tactics; they don’t have the numbers in the police force again and nobody is really applying for recruitment,” remarked one of the followers. “Road Safety will be added to the force to combat with any protest outbursts.” I suppose it’s a tactic since there’s no real justification for arming road safety.

The FRSC Act, 2007 is being amended by a bill introduced by Representatives Olaide Lateef Muhammad and Abiodun Derin Adesida, which aims to form the FRSC Special Armed Squad. I

After passing the House of Representatives for a second reading, the bill now seeks additional provisions to improve the agency’s operations.

Henshaw said in a different post, “We continue to stand at a point in time when our reality is intended to shatter us. Nevertheless, we manage to continue moving forward despite great adversity and aimless leadership. We are unable to quit trying or give up. That embodies the spirit of Nigerian resiliency. There is untapped potential for a different world among the youth of Nigeria.” @thoughtsandmace – Jude Ilo
