The soaring price of cooking gas in Nigeria has become a pressing concern for households and businesses alike.
This essential commodity once considered a more affordable alternative to kerosene and firewood, has seen a dramatic increase in price, making it increasingly difficult for many Nigerians to meet their daily cooking needs.
In its latest report, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed a significant increase in the average price of cooking gas, indicating that the price of a 5kg cylinder has risen from ₦6,430.02 in August to ₦6,699.63 in September 2024.
This figure represents a 4.19 per cent increase from the previous month and an impressive 59.90 per cent rise compared to the ₦4,189.96 recorded in September 2023.
These findings were disclosed in the Bureau’s “Cooking Gas Price Watch” for September 2024, published on Friday.
