Unless you don’t use social media or live in a cave, you have probably heard at least one story about Bobrisky, Nigeria’s notorious media personality, going through some turbulence this year. And now that he has declared that he has officially left Nigeria, it appears that he may finally be able to exhale with relief.
Bobrisky’s problems started on March 25, 2024, when Ajanaku: Beast of Two Worlds, which was produced by actress Eniola Ajao, had its global debut.
He received the title of “Best Dressed Woman” on that memorable day, which upset a lot of people. He was wearing a gorgeous black gown covered in sequins, his hair curled in curls, and he had bold black lipstick.
Bobrisky received criticism for accepting the award in front of biological women, as you might expect, and Eniola Ajao received criticism for selecting him as the winner.
News broke online on April 4, 2024, that he had been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after they received a complaint that he had sprayed and displayed wads of fresh naira notes during the film’s premiere. From there, things took a turn for the worse.
Millions of Nigerians were left perplexed and wondering when money spraying was made illegal as it rapidly became the talk of the town. For days, the image of the most notorious socialite carrying the offender board was all over the internet, and nobody could avoid the breaking news that he had been hauled up by the EFCC.
He entered a guilty plea to a four-count charge of money laundering and naira abuse when the case finally reached the court. And his courtroom photos were widely shared online, as usual, and they generated endless conversation!
After receiving a six-month prison sentence, he was transferred to the correctional facility, bringing his opulent Louis Vuitton luggage with him—or so we believed.
With the bags he had, it was safe to say that many people did not think he was going to Kirikiri.
Bobrisky was a popular topic even when he was “incarcerated,” particularly after crossdresser James Brown claimed to have paid him a visit while he was there. At one point, some individuals even started to miss his popular social media soundbites and antics.
The socialite’s release was widely hailed on August 5, 2024, and everyone assumed that was the end of it.
They couldn’t have been more mistaken! Bobrisky’s troubles were only getting started.
On September 24, 2024, social media star VeryDarkMan posted a damning audio clip in which he claimed that certain anonymous EFCC personnel had paid him ₦15 million in exchange for dropping the money laundering allegations against him.
Along with admitting to paying the EFCC ₦15 million to resolve his money laundering case, he also described how he was transferred from prison to a luxurious apartment to fulfill his term for misusing naira.
Bobrisky further claimed in the voicemail that his son and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) helped to have the charges against him dropped, preventing him from going to jail.
Then, according to Very Dark Man, Falz and his father, SAN Femi Falana, were responsible for his exoneration and pardon.
Because he was so at ease that he talked about topics that some believe should have been left to the dead, the voice note really lit social media on fire, and he was criticized by many. The catch is that, despite the fact that it sounded like him, Bobrisky emphasized that the voice note that went viral was not his. That was not widely accepted, however.
The money laundering charges against Bobrisky were formally withdrawn after the EFCC and House of Representatives investigated the allegations, despite VDM’s assertions to the contrary.
It would seem like everything would end there, and Bobrisky could resume his regular life. incorrect as well.
Word on the street was that he was detained at the Seme border on October 21, 2024, purportedly while traveling to the Benin Republic, amid all the drama surrounding his “time in prison.” Bobrisky allegedly delivered his passport to someone else to get it signed while he remained hidden in a car, according to Very Dark Man.
The ongoing investigations into Bobrisky’s suspected bribery of EFCC officers took a new turn after this disclosure.
The Nigerian Immigration Service took him in after he was arrested, and two days later, he was sent to the hospital after his temperature suddenly increased.
Bobrisky was literally hit with curveball after curveball and hardly had time to relax during the year.
He was captured again just a few days after the NIS freed him! The EFCC this time in Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed Airport. He was humiliated on the actual streets of Lagos after being physically taken from the plane bound for London. Many people were incensed after the footage of the agents taking him off the plane and mistreating him went viral on Twitter.
The socialite said on November 4, 2024, that he had finally left Nigeria after everything appeared to have cooled down.
He might be able to take a break from everything now, but who knows?
