Monday Okpebholo and Dennis Idahosa were officially sworn in as the Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State, respectively.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on Tuesday (today) at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the capital city of the state.
It is worth noting that Okpebholo takes over from Godwin Obaseki, who governed the state for eight years as a two-term governor.
The new Governor who is of the All Progressives Congress, defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21 election.
On Tuesday, Okpebholo and Idahosa were sworn in by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daniel Okongbowa.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima headed the Federal Government delegation at the inauguration ceremony.
He was accompanied by governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, and Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto.
The event also saw the participation of the APC’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, along with his predecessor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
In the presence of a large crowd and significant security, Okpebholo, alongside his two daughters, took the oath of office and allegiance at 1:00 p.m., administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.
Prior to this, Dennis Idahosa, with his wife by his side, ascended the podium to take the oath as the Deputy Governor of the state.
Following the oath-taking, the governor proceeded to inspect the guard of honour and the parade conducted by the officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police.
