In 2024, the Brand Finance Global City Index ranked five African nations as having the highest brand value.

Like businesses, nations, and even cities, create brands that reflect their identity, values, and public perception, as we noted in a previous piece on the nations with the highest brand value. In Africa, city branding is essential as countries strive to draw in foreign investment and attention.

The top 100 city brands in the world are listed in the Brand Finance Global City Index, which is the standard ranking for city brands.

More than 15,000 respondents from 20 nations participated in this year’s study, which was carried out in September 2024, and gave their opinions about cities on different continents.

Business & Investment, Livability, Culture & Heritage, People & Values, Sustainability & Transportation, Governance, and Education & Science are the seven pillars of a city’s brand that are evaluated by the index, which takes into account 45 aspects. With a remarkable score of 90.9 out of 100, London is at the top of the list this year.

Cities with strong brands benefit much; they attract talent, investment, and tourists. More tourists are drawn to cities with strong brands, and these tourists frequently act as unofficial ambassadors, sharing their experiences and promoting the area.

Additionally, this boost draws firms and economic prospects, increasing the city’s competitiveness, encouraging local entrepreneurship, and generating jobs that attract talent from around the world.
