JUST IN: Travellers Killed As Bandits Plant Explosives On Zamfara Road

Bandits have again placed a new set of explosives along the Mai Lamba axis of the Dansadau-Gusau road in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of several travellers.

Channels Television shared disturbing images of the incident on Wednesday (today), depicting the victims of the explosion lying motionless by the roadside while onlookers expressed their shock and sorrow.

Residents in Dansadau informed newsmen that the suspected militants had strategically positioned the explosives on the road that links Dansadau to other regions of the state.

Abdullahi Dansadau, a local inhabitant, reported that a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle triggered the bomb, leading to the deaths of six individuals and injuries to eight others.

“It was this morning, one golf 3 vehicle stepped on the bomb and exploded, we have six dead bodies here now and eight others sustained injuries, the vehicle was destroyed completely,” he said.

The Commander of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army Gusau, Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, while confirming the incident to Channels Television, said he has instructed troops of Operation Fansan Yamma to the scene of the Incident for assessment.

“That was what I heard too but I don’t have details, I have instructed the troops to go there for assessment,” he said.

The latest incident occurred following reports on Monday that fear of insecurity gripped residents after reports of armed bandits operating in the region now deploying explosives as part of their tactics.
