As his attorney provides an update on his arraignment, Speed Darlington will spend Christmas in custody.

Stan Alieke, the attorney for troubled Nigerian artist Speed Darlington, revealed that the case against the controversial singer and his coworker Burna Boy has been brought to trial.

When Darlington returned to Nigeria for a gig, he was arrested again by the police in Owerri, Imo State, according to Naija News Thrill.

Since the arrest, the musician has been held at the Police Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja after being transferred from Owerri.

In an exclusive interview with Naija News, human rights attorney Deji Adeyanju stated that Darlington’s arrest and custody were the result of certain strong forces.

Adeyanju went on to say that the singer’s rights are being violated by the Nigeria Police Force.

Adeyanju claimed that Darlington had no intention of breaking bail and that the singer had returned from an emergency in the United States. In an attempt to obtain his release, he added, We have just filed a fundamental right proceeding at the Federal High Court, which is aimed at securing his release.”

In a statement on Monday, Alieke provided an update on the case, stating that the Speed Darlington, also referred to as “Akpi,” was not arraigned in court last week due to the judges’ attendance at a conference.

According to Alieke, the courts will close for the holiday season till the end of January by next week.
