Members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) convened for a crucial in-person meeting at the Forum’s Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday evening.
At the time of this report, fifteen governors, predominantly from the All Progressives Congress (APC), were in attendance.
Notably, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, representing the Labour Party (LP), and his counterpart from Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), were the only opposition governors present.
However, details regarding the meeting’s agenda were not disclosed to the media by the time of publication.
It is worth noting that the governors have been grappling with the controversial Tax Reform Bills introduced by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly over the past few weeks.
These new tax proposals from the Tinubu administration have generated significant controversy, eliciting strong criticism and opposition from various stakeholders, including the 36 state governors who are part of the National Economic Council (NEC).
Furthermore, the 19 governors from northern Nigeria have firmly opposed certain provisions of the bills and have called for their withdrawal from the National Assembly.
