The federal government has urged state governments that have not yet adhered to the new National Minimum Wage Act to initiate the payment of the revised minimum wage of ₦70,000.
On Monday, following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, expressed this request, commending those states that have already begun disbursing the new minimum wage to their employees.
Akume emphasized that the matter of the new minimum wage has consistently been a priority for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which is why a tripartite framework was swiftly established to address all related concerns.
He noted that both the Federal Government and the governors were involved in this initiative, alongside representatives from the organized private sector, to facilitate the determination of the new minimum wage.
“We are very satisfied with it. And, some state governments have started implementing it. Others have even gone beyond ₦70,000. So I believe that there’s no problem with that whatsoever.
“We applaud those who have started, and those who have not started, we just want to appeal to them to start the payment,” he stated.
