FCT Police Nab 307 Criminal Suspects, Recover Ammunitions
In the wake of the commencement of Operation Velvet by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, which involved the collaboration of the anti-kidnapping unit, counter-terrorism unit, and other anti-crime units, a total of 307 individuals suspected of criminal activities were apprehended in Abuja over the weekend.
The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, disclosed on Monday that he led the tactical teams of the Command during the implementation of Operation Velvet.
According to him, on the night of 11/02/2024, at approximately 11:30 pm, police operatives conducted a raid on a notorious area known as Gidan Dambe in the Dei-Dei-Zuba axis, resulting in the arrest of 307 suspects.
“During a search, one English Pistol with fifteen (15) rounds of 9mm ammunition was recovered from one Ibrahim Tukur who claimed to be a DSS personnel.
“Other exhibits such as Motorcycles, wraps of marijuana, illicit substances, and valuables reasonably suspected to have been stolen from innocent residents were equally recovered,” the Police Commissioner noted.
CP Igweh emphasized that the suspects will go through a thorough screening and profiling process. He highlighted that the command’s operation is focused on combating all types of vehicular criminality and other crimes in the FCT.
The CP specifically warned officers against extorting residents and emphasized the importance of professionalism in carrying out their lawful duties. He reiterated that the security of the populace is his top priority.
