Four NSCDC Operatives Killed In Clash With Boko Haram Terrorists

Days after reporting seven of its personnel as missing in action due to an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the deaths of four of the seven individuals.

According to the security agency, one person remains unaccounted for, while two have returned to their base.

In a statement, NSCDC spokesman Babawale Afolabi noted that the Commandant General of the Corps, Ahmed Audi, expressed his condolences to the officers and members of the Special Squad.

This squad was established to oversee National Grid Installations in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State and other regions across the country, but it faced a severe attack from the Boko Haram terrorist group last week.

Dr. Audi visited the injured personnel at an undisclosed medical facility on Thursday, commending their gallantry, bravery, and courage during the ambush.

He assured that the Corps would cover all medical expenses and address their welfare needs.

“The personnel demonstrated an unwavering determination and commitment to the service of their fatherland and, hence, deserve all the support they can get from the organisation and the government they swore allegiance to.

“The visit was necessary to know how they are faring and to encourage those directly affected and all personnel at large that the leadership of the Corps places a very high premium on their welfare and will never abandon them, especially in a situation like this,” he assured.

Seven members of the Corps’ Special Squad, sourced from the national headquarters, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kaduna State Commands, were reported missing in action following an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents.

This incident occurred at the border between Niger and Kaduna states during an inspection of the National Grid Installation.

“As of today, out of the seven missing officers, four dead bodies had been recovered, two men returned back to base unhurt while one personnel is still missing in action,” said Afolabi.
