Gov Ododo Approves ₦600 Million For Payment Of WAEC Fees In Kogi

Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has authorized a minimum wage of seventy-two thousand five hundred naira (₦72,500) for civil servants in Kogi, effective immediately.

Additionally, the Governor has suspended the tax obligation on this amount for a duration of one year.

Ododo announced this decision on Monday following the signing of the agreement regarding the new minimum wage.

“The new minimum wage of seventy-two thousand five hundred naira should take immediate effect to enable it to cope with the current situation in the country,” the governor said.

The Chairman of the Minimum Wage Committee, Elijah Evenemi, emphasized that the consensus reached regarding the minimum wage should not be viewed as a triumph for any political faction but rather as a benefit for the general populace.

He expressed gratitude to the governor for allowing the committee the autonomy necessary to function effectively and achieve a shared objective.

On July 18, 2024, President Bola Tinubu approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers in Nigeria and committed to reviewing the national minimum wage legislation every three years.

This decision followed a meeting between the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
