Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has claimed that opposition parties are deliberately inciting unaware young people to engage in protests.

This allegation comes in the wake of recent protests that took place in Minna, the capital of Niger State, and Kano State on Monday, which were fueled by the prevailing hardships in the country.

Some women were said to have started the protest around Kpakungu area of Minna but the peaceful event was allegedly hijacked by aggrieved citizens who blocked the major road leading to the main Campus of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) in Gidan Kwanu.

In a statement released, however, on Tuesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, asserted that the protests witnessed in Minna and Kano were a clear indication of a premeditated scheme.

Morka further emphasized that these actions were driven by a desperate attempt to portray the ruling party as ineffective in its governance.

“In its arrant desperation to portray the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration as under-performing, opposition parties have resorted to instigating unsuspecting young people to protests in the streets of some major cities.

“The protests in Minna and Kano on Monday were the manifestation of this devious and unpatriotic plot. That the protests happened simultaneously in both cities is not coincidental.

“It bears a bold stamp of an orchestrated and coordinated effort to instigate unrest and undermine the government. This mercenary opposition tactic is a clear and present threat to public peace and national security,” Morka said.

Morka said while the ruling party acknowledges the right of citizens to participate in peaceful protests, it urged the people to remain vigilant and not allow themselves to be influenced by the opposition’s inflammatory language and manipulative schemes, which aim to create social unrest.

He highlighted that the administration led by President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to taking all necessary measures to alleviate the temporary difficulties caused by important reforms that are essential for economic recovery and sustainable prosperity for all Nigerians.

The spokesperson stated that it is the responsibility of every good citizen to support the government in this noble endeavor.

He emphasized that over time, these policy reforms will bring about lasting positive changes in the living conditions of the nation.

He pleaded with Nigerians to reject any attempts by opposition elements to destabilize the country for their political gains.
