My account of Mohbad’s story, Naira Marley speaks out

Well-renowned artist Azeez Fashola, better known by his stage name Naira Marley, has given his version of events leading up to the passing of Promise Aloba, also known as Mohbad, his former signee.

In a two-hour documentary on Wednesday, Naira Marley revealed how his former signee started his musical career in his label and how he ultimately passed away.

He claims that he never killed the “Ask About Me” and “KPK” crooner or harassed Mohbad.

At the age of 27, Mohbad passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

A Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos, cleared music promoter Sam Larry (Samson Balogun) and Naira Marley of any responsibility for Mohbad’s demise in February.

Babatunde Opere, Mohbad‘s previous manager, and Primeboy (Ibrahim Owodunni) were both released by the court.

The auxiliary nurse who cared for Mohbad just before he passed away, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, was recommended to be charged with a crime by the Ikorodu Coroner’s Court in July.

The state government organized the inquest to determine the cause of the singer’s demise.

By giving the singer an injection without a prescription, the nurse engaged in egregious negligence, according to Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi.

The court determined that the nurse’s acts were both “unlawful and professionally negligent,” even if it excluded foul play and homicide from the case.

However, Naira Marley said in the latest video that he discovered Mohbad was taking an illicit narcotic called Ice on June 7, 2020.

“I eventually discovered that the substance he claimed to be taking was Ice (crack).” Since I am aware of the harm it has caused to others I know in the UK, I called him and warned him about the danger without getting upset. He claimed that stress was the reason he got involved, but he promised to stay out of it. The singer said that she didn’t make him do anything.

Additionally, the Japanese crooner provided proof that Mohbad chose his own manager in July 2020.

He intended to give Tunde a quarter. “No, ten percent,” I said. With him, my things are always simple. I make every effort to be open and honest about all of our interactions, and they are all based on love.

Our company is simple, despite having accountants. I’ve never said that before, but we did 50-50. He answered, “I covered everything, and then we divided 50/50.”

By displaying a WhatsApp conversation from November 2020 in which Mohbad visited a hospital, he also refuted the rumor that he was scared to go there.

Zinoleesky and one Subomi were taken by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) police during a raid on the Marlian residence on February 24, 2022.

Mohbad was taken along because he got into a violent conflict with the authorities, according to Naira Marley, who claimed to have been in Sweden at the time.

Soon after his release, Mohbad went live (on Instagram) under duress. He implicated me and others during a panic attack, he said.

“Everyone na Marlian Music, Naira Marley kill me if I die,” Mohbad declared during the live session.

He also made numerous accusations against Zino, his girl, while they were traveling to the hospital. He even made accusations against our wives. Naira Marley claimed, “He made a statement calling Zino a snitch shortly after that, while in a vulnerable state of psychosis.”

Mohbad continued to be a part of Marlian Music after that occurrence.

According to Naira Marley, Mohbad, his parents, and his fiancée Wunmi expressed regret for the singer’s behavior.

The “Soapy” singer claimed that Mohbad ceased visiting Marlian’s home on a regular basis following the NDLEA incident. He said he paid for medical examinations and prescription drugs in an attempt to gain Mohbad’s assistance.

Mohbad made an attempt at suicide on March 27, 2022. He was in Puerto Rico at the time, according to Naira Marley.

He claimed that upon his return to Nigeria, he discussed his internet search for the lethal insecticide Sniper with Mohbad. According to Naira Marley, he also had a conversation with Mohbad’s parents, who decided that Mohbad ought to be removed.

According to Naira Marley, Mohbad was drunk on a fateful day and came to Marlian’s house to beat his manager after they had a falling out.

The singer claimed that after the encounter, Mohbad accused him (Naira Marley) of threatening his life on Twitter, which is now X, since he wanted to break up with his management.

Naira Marley stated, “We believe Mohbad gave his phone to someone in order to make up the story.”

Mohbad’s attorney informed Marlian Music in a letter dated October 7, 2022, that the musician want to depart from the label. According to Naira Marley, he provided Mohbad’s attorney with the payment record to demonstrate the openness of their financial dealings.

Shortly thereafter, Mohbad took $72,000 out of a DSP partner in December 2022. He did not have any of these funds. He stated, “We had to withhold a portion of his royalty payment until he gave back the money he had stolen.”

Naira Marley observed that he ceased communicating with Mohbad and his attorneys after he took the money out.

He said that he hadn’t seen Mohbad since the day of his altercation with his manager on October 4, 2022.

Naira Marley claims that he was in Amsterdam on the day that Mohbad passed away. He claimed that accusations of his involvement in Mohbad’s death started to surface.

Those who were with Mohbad 24 to 48 hours prior to his murder should have been detained, according to Naira Marley.
