The leading Nigerian music analytics business TurnTable Chars reports that Virgin Music‘s collaboration with Dapper Music has allowed it to surpass other labels in Nigeria’s market share for Q1–Q3 2024.
After partnering with Dapper Music & Entertainment, Virgin Music was able to take the lead in Nigeria’s streaming market across five key platforms.
This achievement follows the introduction of Virgin Music Group, a branch of Universal Music Group’s global network, in Nigeria one year ago. Motolani Alake was appointed to head the company’s A&R and marketing initiatives, while Olukorede “Kay” Ikazoboh led the business.
Considering that Virgin Music only joined the Nigerian market less than a year ago, TurnTable Chart characterized the label’s accomplishments as remarkable.
The strong releases of Seyi Vibez and Vibez Inc. helped propel Dapper Music’s market share above that of YBNL Nation and Mavin Records, and Virgin Music Global now holds the top spot at 8.62%, with its Nigerian subsidiary accounting for 8.15%.
With 13 weeks of data collecting left, Virgin Music and EMPIRE have both topped 1 billion on-demand streams in 2024. which, since tracking started in 2020, is a record for any record label, according to the TurnTable Chart.
With a 7.97% market share and more than 1 billion streams by Q3, Dapper Music & Entertainment is the top Nigerian company. Dapper’s domination has been strengthened by important releases including Shallipopi’s “Presido La Pluto” (rated No. 4) and Seyi Vibez’s “NAHAMciaga” EP (the No. 1 album of 2024).
