Famous Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, widely recognized as Speed Darlington, has been arrested in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
The singer’s attorney and human rights advocate, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed this incident in a post on his official X account on Wednesday.
Adeyanju indicated that his client was taken into custody yesterday by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force while performing at an event in Owerri, shortly after his return to the country earlier that week.
He stated, “Our client, Speed Darlington, also known as AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri during his performance upon returning to Nigeria.”
At the time of this report, the specific reasons for Speed Darlington’s arrest remain unknown.
It could be recalled that the Nigeria Police had previously detained Darlington on allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy.
The artist was initially arrested in Lagos and subsequently transferred to Abuja, where the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team held him in the Guzape area.
The musician, accused of cyberstalking Burna Boy, was released on bail a few days following his arrest.
