The renowned Nigerian rapper Ruggedman, whose real name is Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, has urged the government to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
According to Ruggedman, it was needless for government officials and supporters to attack Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, for voicing his disapproval of the country’s chaotic economic situation.
According to Naija News Thrill, Davido criticized the manner President Bola Tinubu’s federal administration has been managing the nation’s economy while appearing on the Bid Homies House podcast in the US.
“It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles. I do my part, I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts,” Davido said.
Bashir Ahmad, a former Senior Special Assistant on Digital Communication to former President Muhammadu Buhari and the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called Davido’s statement unpatriotic.
“Selling out your country from foreign soil is so disappointing and unpatriotic. Public figures like Davido should know that. They should act and be seen as good ambassadors for Nigeria wherever they find themselves,” Bashir wrote on his X handle.
Ruggedman posted a defense of Davido on his X account on Monday, “Ok Davido has said what he said, moving forward the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such again. All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation. The hardship is too much.”
