Personnel from the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, stationed in Ohafia, were reportedly involved in a significant armed confrontation with unidentified gunmen in Mbata, located in Umuchima village, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to reports from The Nations, more than 15 Hilux vehicles and armored personnel carriers were deployed to Umuchima village at approximately 6 a.m., with the objective of targeting the suspected gunmen.
The gunmen are believed to have established a camp near a river that delineates the boundary between Abia State and the Mbaise region of Imo State.
The report indicates that soldiers have secured critical junctions leading to and from the village, while additional troops are engaged in combat with the gunmen in the surrounding bush areas.
As of the time of this report, gunfire continues to be heard, and there have been no official comments from either the Nigerian Army or the Abia State Government.
This incident may be linked to Governor Alex Otti’s recent commitment to bolster security measures following discussions with senior security officials.
