President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has imposed a limit on Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government, allowing them a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced this decision on Thursday, stating, “No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement.”
This initiative is part of the Federal Government’s strategy to reduce governance costs in light of current economic conditions.
In January, Tinubu had already instructed that the number of officials accompanying government representatives on foreign trips be reduced from 50 to 20 and from 50 to 25 for domestic trips.
Additionally, the Vice President’s entourage has been limited to five officials for international travel and 15 for domestic travel.
Furthermore, in the directive issued today, President Tinubu has mandated that all ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies may have no more than five security personnel assigned to them.
“The security team will comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer. No additional security personnel will be assigned.
“President Tinubu instructed the National Security Adviser to engage with the Military, Paramilitary and Security Agencies to determine a suitable reduction in their vehicle and security personnel deployment. All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes.”
