Tyla receives congratulations from Davido following her historic victory at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Davido gives Tyla congrats on her historic Grammy victory.

One of the first musicians to congratulate South African singer Tyla on making history as the first winner of the African Music Performance category was Nigerian megastar Davido.

Tyla defeated rivals Davido, Burna Boy, Asake & Olamide, and Ayra Starr from Nigeria to win the Best African Music Performance prize for her song “Water” at the 66th Grammy Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on February 4, 2024.

Davido congratulated the South African artist on having the most commercially successful song in the genre, “Water,” which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, on his X page.

“@Tyllaaaaaaa, congratulations on your victory! Huge Victory for Africa! Davido wrote, “Keep Soaring,” following the failure of his popular song “Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys to win the category.

The Nigerian contingent didn’t have a good night as Burna Boy lost all four of his nominations and Davido lost all three of his, leaving no Nigerian winner out of ten nominees.
