Megastar Burna Boy has accomplished yet another remarkable milestone: he is now the first Nigerian musician to have two albums with over one billion Spotify plays.
The Grammy winner achieved this milestone after his album “African Giant” earned 1 billion Spotify plays, joining his sixth album “Love, Damini,” which has 1.3 billion Spotify plays.
2019 saw the release of “African Giant,” one year after Burna Boy became a worldwide celebrity after his 2018 album “Outside”‘s surreal hit single “YE” went viral.
“African Giant” was a testament to Burna Boy’s standing as a continental leader competing on the international front. Notable successful records from the album include “On The Low” and “Gbona,” both of which have achieved platinum certification in France.
The album also includes the smash songs “Anybody,” “Dangote,” “Omo,” “Killin Dem” with Zlatan, and “Gum Body” with Jorja Smith.
With 304 million Spotify streams, “On The Low” is the album’s most streamed song. “Gbona” comes in second with 185 million, while “Anybody” comes in third with 90 million.
Burna Boy’s most commercial album, “Love, Damini,” has the hit songs “Last Last,” which has had over 451 million Spotify plays, and “For Your Hand,” which has received 289 million plays and features Ed Sheeran.
Burna Boy continues to set numerous noteworthy firsts for Nigerian and African music, where he has emerged as its top exporter, with two albums surpassing one billion Spotify plays.
