In a media chat on Monday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, warned that the Peoples Democratic Party faces self-destruction if it tries to re-enter the race for president by bringing Peter Obi, a former candidate for the position of the Labour Party.
Wike recalled that he and other party leaders had warned repeatedly against allowing both the national chairman and the presidential candidate to come from the North, arguing that this was an unfair and politically damaging move.
The former governor of Rivers State claimed that the PDP’s loss at the polls was caused in part by its “stealing” both positions and disregarding pleas for justice and balance.
Now that you have stolen the national chairman and the presidential ticket, it is better. It will purify you, I said. And they were truly purified by it. I’m not sorry about it,” he said.
Wike maintained that in order to maintain political stability and justice, the presidency must return to the South.
He claims that the PDP is now weaker and more vulnerable as a result of its conceit and disregard for internal warnings.
Additionally, he brushed aside rumours that Obi would rejoin the PDP, calling the move risky and hypocritical.
“To what? Where is Obi being taken? Do you wish to ruin the celebration? Is the party now acceptable to Obi, who was mistreating it and accusing it of being rotten? People who are ambitious may even visit Satan’s mansion, according to Wike.
“Such a decision would further erode the party’s credibility and destroy any remaining ideological foundation,” the minister emphasised.
“Bring Obi if you dare to ruin this celebration. He will never return for the sake of ambition alone. “No more principles, no more ideology,” he added.
Wike insisted that he was committed to his long-held beliefs that the PDP can only recover national importance by focussing on equality, justice, and zoning.
