2027: I’ve no plan to contest any elective seat – El-rufai

Nasir El-rufai, a former Kaduna State governor, has said that he will not run for any political office in the general elections of 2027.

While welcoming Peoples Democratic Party defectors to the African Democratic Congress in Kaduna on Wednesday, El-rufai made this point clear.

He claimed that his willingness to support credible leadership at all levels was what motivated his resumed political activity rather than personal ambition.

The former Federal Capital Territory Minister clarified that his original intention upon leaving office in 2023 was to distance himself from party politics.

However, he stated that he was forced to return due to the country’s current events, emphasizing that his current focus was on encouraging women, young people, and Nigerians with a reform mindset to get involved in governance.

“I’m not running for office. I have no desire to visit the Senate. I’m not looking for a job.

“I planned to take a break after my term as governor was complete. However, considering the current state of affairs, I think we all have a responsibility to contribute to improved leadership. We are back in politics because of this,” he remarked.

Noting that their involvement was essential to altering the political landscape, he urged young people in Kaduna and throughout the nation to take advantage of the current voter registration drive.
