BREAKING: Ramadan Fast Commences As Crescent Moon Is Spotted In Saudi Arabia
The sighting of the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia has been confirmed, marking the start of the Holy month of Ramadan.
It was observed on Sunday evening, indicating that March 10 will be the last day of the month of Sha’ban.
Consequently, the Holy Month will commence on Monday, March 11. The commencement and conclusion of Ramadan are determined by the lunar Islamic calendar, which allows months to span either 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon.
In anticipation of Ramadan, Saudi Arabian authorities had urged Muslims to watch for the crescent. The Supreme Court had specifically requested that anyone who spotted the crescent report to the nearest court and register their observation.
Meanwhile, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Brunei have already announced that Ramadan will begin on March 12.
Oman has officially declared that the commencement of Ramadan will be on March 12, Tuesday, due to the absence of the crescent moon sighting on Sunday evening.
Observing a fast during Ramadan is considered one of the fundamental principles of Islam.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, lasts four weeks and two days. During this time, Muslims worldwide abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset.
They also engage in acts of prayer, seeking peace and guidance, contribute to the welfare of their communities through acts of charity or zakat, and participate in humanitarian endeavors such as providing meals to the less fortunate. Additionally, Ramadan serves as a time for self-reflection and spiritual enlightenment.
