In the spirit of the Holy month, traders call on food item dealers and merchants in the state to significantly lower their prices.

Beginning with the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Kano vendors have not stopped bemoaning the lack of consumer support.
A few merchants in Kano who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday blamed the predicament on the poor purchasing power of the populace.

Malam Tanko Idris, a food products merchant, claimed that this year’s sales have lagged behind prior ones. Idris observed that despite the fact that the costs of certain things, particularly consumables, often skyrocket during the month of Ramadan, people continued to buy goods.

Saminu Dauda, a retailer in perishable products, expressed dissatisfaction at the decline in business. He clarified that the unfavorable circumstances were a result of the nation’s economic crisis.

Sani Ali, a vegetable vendor, bemoaned the unusual circumstances in contrast to what he had observed in the market every time Ramadan began or approached. According to Ali, the current economic climate has led to numerous clients complaining about a lack of finances.

He also bemoaned how many people’s ability to buy has been impacted by the reality of the economy. Nura Baba, a customer, expressed specific dissatisfaction about the high costs of rice, millet, flour, and sugar, claiming that they are unsettling him as the fasting time draws near.

“How do they wish us to feed throughout the Ramadan time, for For instance, with sugar selling for more than ₦5,5000 per measure, rice costing more than ₦3,500 per measure, millet being sold at ₦1,800 per slot, and a crate of eggs retailing for ₦3,300?” he asked.

To “substantially reduce the cost of goods in the spirit of the Holy month,” he made a request to the state’s food distributors and shops.
