Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have finally arrested one Kayode Cole for making a death threat against the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede.

A statement released on Wednesday by the anti-graft agency showed that Cole was arrested in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

Cole was said to have issued the threat through his Instagram handle “1billionsecretss” on February 1, 2024, in response to a post by popular Instagram blogger Instablog9ja.

The post highlighted money laundering activities by a religious sect for terrorists, linking N7 billion fraud proceeds to another religious group, as stated by the EFCC Chairman.

In the comment section, Cole threatened that the EFCC chairman would meet his demise within six months.

“He will be dead in six months. This man will be dead in 6 months remembered, I said it”, Cole had written on the social media platform.

However, according to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Cole confessed during interrogation, claiming that he was just “chasing clout.”

Oyewale said the suspect will be handed over to the appropriate authority for further investigation and prosecution.

Recall that the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, had on Wednesday, January 30, 2024, at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, during a one-day

dialogue on “Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption.” revealed that the commission had uncovered how a religious sect in Nigeria is laundering money for terrorists.

The EFCC boss also stated that another religious body was found to be protecting a money launderer after some money suspected to have been laundered was traced to the organization’s bank

account.
