I was unable to eat or sleep – Solidstar describes his struggle with substance abuse
He admitted that his habit caused him to lose himself. During his stay at Festac, singer Solidstar was first exposed to a narcotic that led to his addiction. The podcast of The Sincere Bunch
Nigerian musician Solidstar has disclosed how, in 2021, a few pals exposed him to hard narcotics.
The newly sober musician described how he relocated to the Festac neighborhood of Lagos State after spending some time creating tracks on the island in an interview with The Honest Bunch
Podcast. He claimed that it happened there that he was exposed to illegal drugs, which left him crippled.
“I visited Festac to hang out after growing bored on the Island. I think you heard that I lost my mind.
They initially exposed me to one chemical there. As you are aware, there were a lot of drugs offered at the time,” he stated.
In further explanation, he said that he became hooked on the nameless substance over time after being introduced to it by some new acquaintances he made in the neighborhood.
“I had previously made plans to spend six months in a hotel because none of my old pals were around. In 2021, I met some teenage boys who became my new pals and offered me to this
stuff. And this stuff truly hurt me and had a terrible effect on me. And I consumed it in the morning, afternoon, and night, falling in love with it and becoming addicted,” Solidstar remarked.
He went on, stressing the medication’s benefits. “Although this chemical prevented me from eating or sleeping, I enjoyed that it forced me to work. I was able to record three tracks in one sitting if
I decided to. That’s how I got hooked, got so thin and irritated, and that’s when I lost who I was,” he said.
Remember that in August 2023, Solidstar’s brother Joseph posted a video of him going around his neighborhood and yelling to himself, which made people aware of Solidstar’s deteriorating
mental state. Worry spread across Nigerians in general and the singer’s fan base specifically after the viral video. Actress Tonto Dikeh volunteered at the time to help Solidstar in whatever capacity
she could. Through numerous years of hardship, Solidstar now claims to have quit tobacco and alcohol use. He continues to work on releasing fresh recordings.
