Miyetti Allah Leader, Bodejo Arraigned In Court
The leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja by the Federal Government.
Understand that Bodejo is facing charges for allegedly establishing and supporting an ethnic militia group unlawfully – Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.
He was arraigned on Friday (today) on a three-count charge filed by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, accusing him of violating the Terrorism (Prevention and
Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Upon hearing the charges, Bodejo pleaded not guilty, leading Justice Inyang Ekwo to order his further detention in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA. Justice Ekwo has set the
date for the commencement of the trial on May 27. The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) had initiated legal proceedings against Bodejo for allegedly breaching the Terrorism (Prevention
and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Upon hearing the charges, Bodejo entered a plea of not guilty. Subsequently, Justice Ekwo directed that the Miyetti Allah leader be kept in the custody of the Defence
Intelligence Agency (DIA) until the trial begins on May 27. Bodejo was apprehended by security forces on Tuesday, January 23, at the Miyetti Allah’s Head Office in Nasarawa State, following the
establishment of a vigilante group in the region. Despite calls for his release, the federal government, represented by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef
Fagbemi, SAN, stressed the necessity of Bodejo’s arrest and detention. During the court proceedings, the government’s legal representative, Ms. Y.A. Imana from the Federal Ministry of Justice,
urged the court to deny Bodejo’s request for unconditional release, citing national security concerns.
