Ribadu delivers relief to 500 Adamawa flood victims

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has distributed relief materials to 500 households affected by the flood that struck Adamawa State last Sunday.

Alhaji Mustapha Ribadu, the organizing secretary of the Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, stated during the distribution on Saturday that the goal of the intervention was to lessen the pain of the flood victims.

The water severely damaged homes, livelihoods, and vital infrastructure in several areas of Yola South Local Government Area, according to Atiku, the younger brother of the NSA.

A gallon of cooking oil, a bag of rice, a carton of spaghetti, a carton of Indomie noodles, blankets, mats, brocade fabrics, and children’s clothes were given to each household.

According to Ribadu, in order to guarantee transparency, the distribution went through a rigorous screening and verification procedure.

He pointed out that in order to determine the true number of victims and determine the extent of the damage, an ad hoc relief team made up of party leaders and community members in Yola South had meticulously visited every locality hit by the flood.

“We took a comprehensive and people-centered approach. We wished that the relief would not end up in the wrong hands.

“We made sure that only those who were actually impacted by this support received it by visiting every affected community and meeting with the affected households,” he stated.

He revealed that the floods had caused enormous damage and that a considerable number of people and property had been lost.

He claimed that some victims were left in terrible circumstances after losing everything, including their homes, jobs, and personal items.

Ribadu disclosed that special arrangements had been made for high-risk or badly impacted individuals, including those who couldn’t attend the public distribution because of their age, health, or other limitations, in order to make sure no one was left behind.

“We’ve made arrangements for the relief packages to be delivered straight to the homes of these individuals,” he stated.

He also revealed that more NSA assistance was being provided to people whose homes were destroyed or rendered unusable.

This is a humanitarian response motivated by empathy and a sincere desire to assist our people in their recovery and reconstruction; it is not only a political gesture.

More initiatives are being planned to assist families in rebuilding their lives and regaining a semblance of normalcy since the NSA is really worried. As further victims are confirmed, we will keep distributing until all impacted individuals are contacted,” he continued.

The recipients conveyed their profound appreciation for the act, characterizing it as both timely and life-saving.

Janet Adebisi, a resident of Shagari End of the Road and one of the beneficiaries, stated that her family was going through a very trying time when the assistance arrived.

Since the flood completely upended our lives, this is the first relief we have gotten. Not only is what Mustapha Atiku Ribadu and the NSA have done kind, but it is truly remarkable. My family really appreciates this assistance,” she stated.

She urged for ongoing assistance to reconstruct the town, adding that the intervention had given hope during a time of despair.
