Police crush armed robber operating from Lagos refuse dump

A suspected armed robber operating from a garbage dump in the state’s Abule Egba region was slain by Lagos State Police Command operations.

The suspect, known only as Blessing, was shot and killed early Thursday morning, a police source reported.

The source claims that at around 1:30 am, detectives broke into the community’s Kantagua area’s garbage dump.

But Blessing reportedly opened fire upon seeing the operatives, prompting the cops to intervene.

After the police received information regarding the location, the operation was conducted at approximately 1:30 pm. The suspect was wounded by a gunshot during the ensuing gunfight. He was taken to a local hospital, where the attending physician pronounced him dead, the source continued.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the incident when contacted.

He claims that the operation was conducted in response to the confession of Yakubu Adeyemi, 43, a well-known robbery suspect who had already been taken into custody.

He claimed that in order to apprehend further gang members and potentially retrieve their operating weapons, Lagos State Police Command operations attacked the Katangua trash dump in Abule Egba.

The suspected armed robber, Blessing “m,” opened fire on the officers upon spotting them, but the officers bravely retaliated. Blessing received bullet wounds during the gunfight and was sent to Oke Odo General Hospital for treatment, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.

Hundeyin further said that four live cartridges, a locally manufactured single-barrelled pistol, and an AK-47 rifle with five rounds of ammo in its breech were found at the scene.

He further revealed that while efforts were being made to find other gang members who were escaping, the body had been placed in the Mainland Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
