Contracts worth more than N40.8 billion have been granted by the Kano State Government to build and repair 17 township roads in the Kano metropolitan region.
These projects cover important local government areas, such as Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo, according to a statement.
During a tour of finished and ongoing road projects with Alhassan Yahaya, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, on Tuesday, Ibrahim Waiya, the Commissioner for Information, made the revelation.
Waiya emphasized that the contracts include the Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass, granted at N1.896 bn, as well as the Jafar-Madobi Road and underpass priced at N1.323 bn.
Muhammad Buhari Road and Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road were given rehabilitation contracts worth N4.108 billion and N2.014 billion, respectively.
The Kano State Government said on Tuesday that it had granted contracts totaling more than N40.8 billion for the development of 17 township roads in Kano metropolitan Local Government Areas, according to the announcement.
They consist of the LGAs of Tarauni, Dala, Ungogo, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, and Gwale.
“This was stated by Ibrahim Waiya, the Commissioner for Information, during a tour of finished and ongoing road projects with Alhassan Yahaya, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.”
It went on to say, “He mentioned that the roads included the Dansudau Bypass and Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road, which were awarded at a cost of N1.896 billion.
The N1.323-bn Jafar-Madobi Road and underpass were also on the list. Additionally, he stated that N2.014 billion and N4.108 billion, respectively, have been allocated for the repair of Muhammad Buhari Road and Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road.
Other noteworthy projects include the N494.367 million Rijiyar Lemo Road, the N205.983 million erosion control project on the Kwanar Durba–Fammar-Kunau Kure Road, and the N5.956 billion Airport Road repair.
The Commissioner pointed out that the goals of these initiatives are to raise Kano citizens’ standard of living generally, lessen traffic, and increase road connection.
Additionally, the government is spending N6.9 billion on the Panda-Hamdullahi-Albasu-Salkwayan-Dutse roads in Albasu LGA and N13.3 billion on the Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi roads in Rogo Local Government Area.
He pointed out that these roads were given priority because of their substantial social and economic value to the surrounding communities.
The roads are anticipated to stimulate the local economy by facilitating smoother travel, improving driving conditions, boosting economic activity, and improving the transit of goods from farms to markets once they are completed.
