Oyo declares Wednesday work-free for Isese festival

In honor of this year’s Isese Day celebration, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has authorized Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a public holiday.

This was communicated to reporters in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, via a statement released Monday by Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, secretary to the State Government.

According to Adeyemo, the governor kindly allowed the day off from work so that state citizens and followers of traditional religions could commemorate the event.

Governor Makinde asked everyone to take the opportunity to pray and reflect for the stability, harmony, and peace of Oyo State in particular as well as all of Nigeria.

According to the statement, “His Excellency has thus asked that the occasion be used to pray for the peace, unity, and stability of the state in particular and the country in general.”

In order to make sure that citizens and state employees are properly informed, the government also demanded that the governor’s approval be widely publicized.

The statement further said, “Please give His Excellency’s approval, as conveyed, the widest publicity it deserves.”

Every year, Isese Day is celebrated to honor the Yoruba people’s cultural heritage, values, and customs. It has gained recognition as a holiday in a number of Southwest states.
