Through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund, the Federal Government has directly distributed around N50 billion to Primary Health Centres nationwide.
This was declared on Monday by Prof. Muhammad Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
“The administration of President Bola Tinubu has also released over N20 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrade of 4,362 PHCs across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory,” Pate said in a post on his official X handle.
“The Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (#BHCPF) provides a Basic Minimum Package of Health Services (#BMPHS) aimed at increasing the fiscal space for health, strengthening our national health systems,” he stated.
“The fund is designed to be financed from at least one percent of the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund (#CRF) and other sources, including donors’ contributions.
” I am happy to notify you that, as of right now, the Fund has disbursed close to N50 billion directly to Primary Health Centres @NphcdaNG throughout the nation, with measurable and impressive results. This has resulted in the qualitative modernisation of health infrastructure in all Nigerian local government areas.
Pate also emphasised the government’s health insurance campaign’s progress, stating that later this year, enrolment is expected to surpass the 2024 record of 2.4 million citizens.
The minister claimed that the country’s healthcare delivery system has undergone a data-driven re-engineering, with over 37 million visits to PHCs reported nationally in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
He continued, saying that during the past two years, President Tinubu’s administration has allocated more than N20 billion to support the renovation and modernisation of 4,362 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the 19 northern states under the BHCPF, with equally significant effects in the southern states.
“We are leading a data-driven re-engineering of basic healthcare provision for Africa’s largest population, with over 37 million visits to primary health centres across all local government areas of Nigeria recorded over the first quarter of 2025 alone.”
