Eight members of the Agunechemba Security group were fired by the Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo due to the vicious attack and public stripping of Miss Jennifer Elobor, a female corps member.
This was revealed on Wednesday at the agency’s headquarters in Awka by Ken Emeakayi, the Special Advisor to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security.
The operatives would be turned over to the police for prosecution, Emeakayi said, adding that the government moved quickly after learning about the occurrence.
He said that the sacked officers attacked the corps member on Tuesday while pursuing suspected cultists, calling their actions “totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable.”
“The administration of Soludo will not accept any kind of incompetence, violence, or misuse of authority by security personnel,” he declared. Any cop who is discovered to have engaged in misconduct will be fired right away and prosecuted.
The state administration pushed on a thorough inquiry and accountability to act as a deterrence, despite requests for a quiet resolution from the victim’s family and National Youth Service Corps authorities.
The government has already paid the victim’s medical bills, replaced her damaged possessions, including a phone and laptop, and publicly apologized to her family, NYSC, and the public, Emeakayi continued.
According to him, the incident would be a turning point in the organization’s transformation and the public’s trust in community security operations.
He emphasized that “in all security engagements, this government is committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, did not answer calls or messages when asked if the operatives had been turned over to the police.
