Kano Aims to Rehabilitate 1,600 Thugs with Amnesty

Under its “safe corridor” project, which aims to address political thuggery and young restlessness in the state, the Kano State Government has announced plans to extend amnesty to remorseful thugs.

During the program’s inauguration on Wednesday at the state police command headquarters, Ibrahim Abdullahi-Waiya, the state commissioner for information and internal affairs, revealed this.

According to him, 718 young people had already been profiled, and 960 more were pending police approval before being enlisted.

Because the development is so unsightly and does not reflect well on the state, His Excellency Governor Abba Yusuf is quite concerned about this (thuggery issue).

“We know very well some of the youth that are actually involved in this, it’s not their own intention, it’s not their own interest, but they were actually lured into that by some evil-minded politicians, which we really look at and see that it is really unacceptable.

Waiya stated, “And for that reason, His Excellency chose to start this project as a purposeful and very intentional project with a view to addressing this.”

He clarified that the young people would be reintegrated into society, undertake rehabilitation, and be subjected to drug tests.

We are fully aware of some of the young people who are truly participating in this; it is not in their best interests or intentions, but they were duped into it by some vile politicians, and we can clearly see that it is unacceptable.

“We really won’t let this continue in the state, and this government won’t accept it,” he continued.

Waiya stated that following police confirmation, the governor would give amnesty.

“After being granted amnesty, they will no longer be subject to any accusations or involvement in any criminal activity, and they will be regarded as innocent like everyone else,” he stated.

Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Commissioner of Police, called on individuals who still had firearms to turn them in, claiming that the program gives them a second chance to start over and contribute to society.

Additionally, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, urged the remorseful thugs to come forward with information that could help apprehend drug dealers and persuade their colleagues who have not yet turned themselves in to do the same.
