Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, has urged citizens to “support those that the government will listen to,” saying he will back those that back President Bola Tinubu.
Wike said this while praising Christopher Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, and Philip Aduda, a former senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, at the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Water Supply Projects in Karu on Thursday.
In addition to praising both men for their ability to help the people, the minister promised to build a 2 kilometer road in Karu at Aduda’s request and said he would stand behind those who still support the Tinubu-led government.
He also praised AMAC Chairman Maikalangu as “very good and hardworking,” pointing out that the latter had used his position of authority to deliver a number of projects to his residents in the area council. He also said that if Maikalangu won reelection as council chairman, his administration would comply with all of his requests.
“Isn’t there a road that you mentioned is roughly two kilometers long? Think of it as finished. One thing about politics and governance, you know, is to help those who can benefit the people. Encourage those who will be heard by the government.
As you can see from what has transpired thus far, Aduda’s government is listening to him. The government asked, “Where is that road he mentioned?” for that reason. Think of it as finished.
You may observe that since Maikalangu took over as AMAC Chairman, he has pushed the government to redo this road, as well as to complete Saburi Road and Kabusa-Takushere Road. He has brought government to do Deidei Road.
For my part, I’m here to discuss folks who have access to the government and provide the populace with something.
“The chairman has access to us. We’ll do anything he tells us. The only man I know is this one. We will offer him anything he desires if he is elected chairman of AMAC. I have no idea which party he is a member of. However, I am aware that he backs Tinubu. I will back anyone who backs Tinubu,” Wike declared.
The minister emphasized that previous administrations had not met the demands of the populace, namely the water supply for the Karu settlements, and that Tinubu’s administration had kept its pledge to serve satellite towns with drinkable water.
“Isn’t it true that we have had a government that has been here for five years? Is it true that we too had a government that remained here for eight years? Is there a government that has arrived to offer you water? Have you ever had any water? Did this government say it would provide you with water? Have we arrived to provide you water yet?
You think that you and this government share a covenant, then. Additionally, the covenant is similar to the statement that “agreement is agreement.” Is it not true that the people of Karu would quickly recall the administration that remembers them?
Will you never forget the people who had the chance to help you but chose not to? Do you think you’ll remember the people that left Karu alone? We have therefore come to fulfill our pledge to you that you must have access to potable, clean water,” he said.
Before losing the seat in the general elections of 2023, Aduda served as the FCT’s representative on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2011 to 2015. He was re-elected in 2015 and again in 2019.
After leaving the PDP in 2024, Maikalangu is running for reelection as AMAC Chairman in the next Area Council elections in February 2026 on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
