Oyo to Disburse N1bn Compensation to Circular Road Property Owners

Property owners impacted by the current Circular Road project in Ibadan have received an additional N200 million in compensation from the Oyo State Government, bringing the total amount paid to N600 million.

The most recent payment, which is the fourth batch, was made available on Thursday at Williams Akin-Funmilayo’s office, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.

Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, promised in a statement that the entire N1 billion set aside for compensation will be disbursed shortly.

We are getting closer to the N1 billion milestone with this activity. Beneficiaries will each receive between N3 and N5 million today, and payments will be credited right away, according to Oyelade.

He clarified that prior to Governor Seyi Makinde taking office, the Circular Road corridor was initially purchased in 2006 and enlarged in 2018.

According to him, the governor ordered that owners of both legal and illegitimate structures receive compensation even though the expansion did not occur under his term.

Oyelade also advised people to report any government official who requests kickbacks, cautioning them against scammers.

The commissioner noted that the project’s concept originated in 2005 under former Governor Rashidi Ladoja and described it as “ordained by God.”

He said, “If you look at it very closely, it would seem that the Lord had ordained this project because the concept was started 20 years ago by former Governor  of Oyo state Rashidi Ladoja, who is also being crowned the Olubadan of Ibadanland 20 years later—after which the Circular Road has been named in his honour.”

Alawiye Adebayo and Abigeal Opelopeoluwa, representatives of the recipients, praised Governor Makinde for fulfilling his commitments and exhibiting compassion in his leadership.
