Troops Neutralize Terrorists, Recover Arms in Borno and Yobe

According to a military source, troops from Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have killed a number of terrorists in different operations around the states of Borno and Yobe.

The operations were part of ongoing attempts to restrict the freedom of movement of terrorists from the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram in the Northeast, the source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The source claims that on August 22, soldiers from the 21 Special Armored Brigade defended their Forward Operating Base at Kumshe in Borno against an overnight attack.

He claimed that the Nigerian Air Force’s combination of precision air bombardment and ground resistance resulted in significant deaths for the terrorists, who carried out the attack in huge numbers with a variety of weapons.

Following the confrontation, an excavation turned up the bodies of over 20 terrorists who had been neutralized, including their dismembered remains that had been hurriedly interred in shallow graves. During the raid, some weapons were also found, according to the source.

On the same day, he continued, Sector 1 forces carried out offensive operations at Dipchari, close to Banki Junction in the Bama Local Government Area, where a gunfight claimed the lives of numerous militants.

A Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tube, two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, sixteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles were among the items recovered, he said. In addition, he said that on August 23, Sector 2 troops and the Civilian Joint Task Force conducted a long-range operation around Ndoksa near Buni Gari in Yobe, where more terrorists were neutralized.

“One AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles were recovered during the operation,” he said, adding that the coordinated operations had reduced the terrorists’ firepower, interfered with their logistics, and strengthened the troops’ control of the area.
