A prominent Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, was successfully repatriated to the People’s Republic of China by the Nigeria Police Force, marking a significant victory against transnational organized crime.
An important milestone in international policing cooperation was reached when the operation, which was coordinated through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, was carried out in cooperation with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.
In 2024, Mr. Dai, a well-known gang boss wanted for planning deadly organized crimes in Guizhou Province, left China after the Zhijin County Public Security Bureau issued an arrest order. He had been evading capture until August 8, 2025, when INTERPOL agents in Nigeria found and apprehended him in Abuja.
On August 15, 2025, the fugitive was returned to Beijing after being apprehended, thanks to an INTERPOL-facilitated system for police-to-police collaboration.
IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, praised the successful operation as evidence of the Nigeria Police Force’s steadfast dedication to international justice and security.
Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives, the IGP stated, sending a strong message to criminals throughout the world. He underlined the value of strong international alliances, operational cooperation, and intelligence sharing in the fight against contemporary transnational crime networks.
DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, went on to say that the operation demonstrates Nigeria’s determination to enforce the law and make a significant contribution to international security through productive law enforcement collaborations.
The Nigeria Police Force solidifies its reputation as a trustworthy international partner in the worldwide war against organized crime with this successful repatriation.
