The 2027 presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been designated to the south.
The decision was made during Monday’s NEC meeting in Abuja by the leaders of the party’s national executive committee.
The NEC confirmed Umar Damagum as the national chairman of the opposition party, therefore the party also kept its leadership in the North.
In March 2023, Damagum became the party’s acting national leader after a Benue State High Court ruling upheld the dismissal of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the previous chairman.
Damagum served as the PDP National Deputy Chairman (North) prior to his appointment.
Damagum thanked the party’s leadership in his acceptance speech for their faith in him and the National Working Committee (NWC).
“Up until now, I believed that nothing we did was valued,” he remarked. This act is for the entire NWC, not just for myself. To them, I owe it.
“To the glory of God, we are still intact as one indivisible party, even though we entered this party at a very difficult time and have managed it this far,” he continued.
